Ephesus Tour from Izmir Cesme & Alacati Hotels

Ephesus Ancient City is an unmissable attraction in Turkey, renowned for its well-preserved ruins and historical significance. Located in Selcuk city, it was a bustling harbor town with a population of 250,000 in ancient times, and one of the Seven Churches of Asia mentioned in the Revelation to John.

The Temple of Artemis, also known as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, was a grand sanctuary dedicated to the goddess of wildlife, hunt, and fertility. Its colossal size and majestic marble columns were a sight to behold, though it has been damaged and rebuilt multiple times over the years. Following Christian rule in the area, its importance waned.

Just a stone’s throw away from the Ephesus ruins lies the Catholic shrine of Virgin Mary’s House, believed to be the final abode of Mother Mary. Discovered by Lazarist priests after a German nun’s vivid visions, the house has since become a Holy Place and a Catholic place of pilgrimage, attracting millions of visitors each year since its designation by Pope Pius XII in 1951.
